Quantity: How many? How much?
Textbook Part 2, pp. 76–79
GoalMake quantity words with the ending -ta, and use nafar when counting people.
New words
the ending -ta · -ta qo‘shimchasi(counting word for people) · nafarHow much? · Qancha?
Explanation
Adding -ta to a number makes a quantity word: uch — uchta (three of them), o‘n — o‘nta, bir — bitta (one). When counting people we don’t use -ta; we use nafar: sakkiz nafar bola (eight children), not “sakkizta bola”. Qancha? (How much?) is often used for things we can’t count one by one: qancha suv? (how much water?)
Worked examples
o‘nta nok (ten pears), uchta olma (three apples), bitta tarvuz (one watermelon)
Sinfimizda yigirma besh nafar o‘quvchi bor. (There are twenty-five pupils in our class.)
Class activity
“Shop game”: one child is the seller, another the buyer. The buyer asks using -ta: “Menga to‘rtta olma bering” (Give me four apples). The seller counts them out.
