Words that name people and things
Textbook Part 2, pp. 4–7
GoalTell words for people (Kim? — Who?) from words for things (Nima? — What?).
New words
person · shaxsthing · narsaWho? · Kim?What? · Nima?
Explanation
Words for people answer the question Kim? (Who?): ona (mother), o‘qituvchi (teacher), Anvar. Everything else, even animals, answers Nima? (What?): stol (table), olma (apple), mushuk (cat). By asking the question we find out if a word names a person or a thing.
Worked examples
Kim? (Who?) — dadam (my dad), shifokor (doctor), Zilola
Nima? (What?) — daftar (notebook), quyosh (sun), kuchuk (puppy)
Class activity
“Who or What?”: the teacher shows a picture. For a person, children say “Kim?” and raise a hand; for a thing or animal they say “Nima?” and clap.
