The vowels O‘ and E
Textbook Part 1, pp. 32–33
GoalSay and write O‘ and E correctly.
New words
the vowel o‘ · o‘ unlisithe vowel e · e unlisithe o‘ mark (‘) · tutuqcha (‘)
Explanation
The letter o‘ is written as o plus the mark ‘, but it is one sound. Leave the mark out and the meaning changes: o‘t (fire/grass) — ot (horse). The vowel e appears in words like eshik (door), ertak (fairy tale), erta (early).
Worked examples
o‘rik (apricot), o‘rdak (duck), ko‘z (eye), qo‘l (hand)
ot (horse) — o‘t (grass); tosh (stone) — to‘sh (chest)
Class activity
“Add the mark”: words on the board without the mark (ot, kol, qol). Children add ‘ where the meaning needs it (o‘t, ko‘l lake, qo‘l hand).
