Consonants said one way, written another
Textbook Part 1, pp. 52–55
GoalSpell correctly the consonants that sound different at the end of a word, and check them.
New words
book · kitobsalt · tuzsugar lump · qandchecking · tekshirish
Explanation
Some consonants sound different at the end of a word: kitob (book) sounds like “kitop”, tuz (salt) like “tus”, qand (sugar) like “qant”. Such pairs are b — p, d — t, g — k, z — s, v — f. To check the spelling, add a vowel: kitob — kitobi, tuz — tuzi. With a vowel after it, the sound is clear.
Worked examples
kitob (book) → kitobi, so we write b; barg (leaf) → bargi, so we write g
qand (sugar) → qandi, so we write d; ot (horse) → oti, so we write t
Class activity
“Magic vowel”: the teacher says a word (yuz, kitob, barg); children add “-i” to the end, say it aloud and write the last letter on the board.
Practice
1
b or p? kito... (book)
kitob, because kitobi
2
z or s? yu... (face)
yuz, because yuzi
3
d or t? qan... (sugar lump)
qand, because qandi
4
How do we check the spelling of barg (leaf)?
Add a vowel: bargi — now we hear g.
