Full stop, question mark, exclamation mark

Textbook Part 1, pp. 82–83
GoalSeparate sentences in writing with punctuation marks.
New words
punctuation marks · tinish belgilariboundary · chegaracomma · vergul (,)
Explanation

When we speak we pause between sentences; in writing we separate them with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. These are called punctuation marks. The next sentence starts with a capital letter. A comma (,) shows a short pause: Bozordan olma, nok, uzum oldik. (We bought apples, pears and grapes at the market.)

Worked examples
Without marks: ertalab yomg‘ir yog‘di hamma uyda qoldi → Ertalab yomg‘ir yog‘di. Hamma uyda qoldi. (It rained in the morning. Everyone stayed home.)
Soyabonim qani? Topdim! (Where is my umbrella? Found it!)
Class activity

“Sentence hunter”: a text without marks is on the board. Children take turns to add a mark where a sentence ends and change the next word to a capital letter.

Practice

2
