Explanation
The number seven is written with the digit 7. A week has 7 days and a rainbow has 7 colours. Bonds of 7: 6 + 1, 5 + 2, 4 + 3, 3 + 4, 2 + 5, 1 + 6. To check a sum we work it out again.
Worked examples
A café has 3 tables on the terrace and 4 in the yard: 3 + 4 = 7 tables.
“4 + 3 = 1” is wrong, because 4 + 3 = 7.
Class activity
Rainbow count: children line up 7 coloured papers in order and say “red is first, ... violet is seventh”.
