Subtracting two-digit numbers
Textbook Part 2, pp. 52–53
GoalSubtract ones from ones and tens from tens (no regrouping).
New words
tens from tens · o‘nliklardan o‘nliklarcoin · tangasom (Uzbek money) · so‘m
Explanation
To subtract one two-digit number from another, subtract ones from ones and tens from tens. 68 − 25: tens 6 − 2 = 4, ones 8 − 5 = 3 → 43.
Worked examples
Jasur had five 10-som coins and was given 3 more: 50 + 30 = 80 som.
He took seven 10-som coins to the market and spent 2: 70 − 20 = 50 som left.
Class activity
Children build the number with ten-bundles and sticks, then remove the bundles and sticks being taken away.
