Comparing two-digit numbers
Textbook Part 2, pp. 44–45
GoalCompare two-digit numbers by tens first, then by ones.
New words
compare the tens · o‘nliklarni taqqoslashthermometer · termometrtemperature · harorat
Explanation
Comparing two-digit numbers starts with the tens: the number with more tens is bigger. 52 > 38, because 5 tens > 3 tens. If the tens are equal, compare the ones: 47 < 49.
Worked examples
A healthy person’s temperature is about 36–37°. If a thermometer shows 39°: 39 > 37 — that is a fever, so see a doctor.
A doctor sees patients in number order: 12, 15, 17, 21. Patient 17 goes in before patient 21.
Class activity
Children get cards from 30–99. Without talking they line up in increasing order, then the class checks.
