More/fewer: writing expressions

Textbook Part 3, pp. 28–29
GoalTurn phrases like “... more than ...” and “... fewer than ...” into expressions.
New words
more (than) · ortiqfewer (than) · kamhard task · murakkab topshiriq
Explanation

“17 more than 52” → 52 + 17 = 69. “18 fewer than 49” → 49 − 18 = 31. First find the starting number, then add for “more” and subtract for “fewer”.

Worked examples
Children did 10 easy tasks and 3 fewer hard ones: 10 − 3 = 7 hard tasks.
“30 more than 70” → 70 + 30 = 100.
Class activity

“Number staircase”: the teacher says a number and a command (“5 more”, “3 fewer”). Children step up or down the stairs to find the answer.
