The number and digit 2
Textbook Part 1, pp. 32–33
GoalLearn how 2 is made (1 and 1), things that come in pairs, writing the digit 2.
New words
two · ikkipair · juftmake-up (number bond) · tarkib
Explanation
The number two is written with the digit 2. Many things come in pairs: two eyes, two hands, a pair of shoes. 2 is made of 1 and 1: 1 + 1 = 2. If we take 1 away from 2, 1 is left: 2 − 1 = 1.
Worked examples
🧦🧦 — a pair of socks, that is 2.
There are 2 apples on the table. One is cut in half. There are still 2 apples (one is just cut)!
Class activity
Children point to body parts that come in twos and say “two”: eyes, ears, hands, feet.
