Объяснение
L. N. Tolstoy was born in 1828 at Yasnaya Polyana, Tula province, in a rich aristocratic family. His mother died when he was one and a half, his father when he was nine; his aunts brought him up and he was educated at home. In 1844 he entered Kazan University, first the faculty of Eastern languages and then law. At twenty-three he went to the Caucasus, to the army in the field, and took part in battles. There he wrote his first work, «Детство», followed by the tales «Отрочество» and «Юность». The three form a trilogy describing the childhood, boyhood and youth of the nobleman Nikolenka Irtenyev. In childhood he is surrounded by love and in harmony; in boyhood he meets the world of adults. «Война и мир», «Анна Каренина» and «Воскресенье» brought him world fame. Tolstoy died of pneumonia on 20 November 1910.
Примеры
Summary of the excerpt: the narrator remembers childhood as a happy, irretrievable time. In the evening, at the tea table, he listens to his mother’s sweet voice and grows sleepy; when he narrows his eyes, she seems tiny. She tells him to go upstairs, he says he does not want to sleep, but a minute later he is asleep.
Continuation: his mother wakes him herself and strokes his hair; Nikolenka hugs her and says he loves her very much. She asks him never to forget her. Upstairs he prays before the icons for his parents, pities Karl Ivanych for his hard lot, tucks his porcelain toy into the pillow, and falls asleep with a tear-wet face. At the end the author asks whether such purity of love and faith will ever return.
