Объяснение

I. S. Turgenev was born in 1818 in Orel and spent his childhood at the Spasskoye-Lutovinovo estate; from childhood he spoke German, French and English. He studied at the universities of Moscow, Petersburg and Berlin. In 1847 the sketch «Хорь и Калиныч» appeared in the journal «Современник» — the first story of the cycle «Записки охотника». In it the writer shows the close bond between people and nature and the horror of serfdom, asserting that every person deserves respect whatever his origin. In 1852 he was arrested for an obituary of Gogol and wrote «Муму» while under arrest. Novels such as «Отцы и дети» brought him real fame; he died in 1883 at Bougival near Paris. «Бирюк» is a story from the cycle in which the hunter-narrator meets a forester.

Примеры
Summary of «Бирюк»: returning from a hunt, the narrator is caught in a storm in the forest; the forester Foma, nicknamed Biryuk, takes him to his hut. The peasants fear Biryuk like fire: he is a strong forester who cannot be bribed. They hear an axe in the forest, Biryuk goes and catches the thief — a ragged, hungry peasant.
Continuation: the narrator offers to pay for the tree; the peasant says he cut it from hunger and begs to have his horse back, while Biryuk says he too is a man under orders. In desperation the peasant cries out, and suddenly Biryuk lets him go. The narrator calls him a good fellow; Biryuk, annoyed, asks him not to tell, and escorts him to the edge of the forest.
