Объяснение
M. Yu. Lermontov was born in 1814 in Moscow; he spent his childhood in the village of Tarkhany with his grandmother E. A. Arsenyeva, as his mother died before he was three. He studied at the boarding school of Moscow University, then at the university, and finished the school of guards cornets in Petersburg before serving in a hussar regiment. In 1837 he was exiled to the Caucasus for his poem on Pushkin’s death, «Смерть поэта», and returned in 1838. He worked on the novel «Герой нашего времени» from 1838 to 1840. In 1841 he was killed in a duel with Martynov at the foot of Mount Mashuk near Pyatigorsk. «Карагёз» is an excerpt from that novel, describing the character Kazbich and his beloved horse. The author shows Kazbich’s character through his attitude to the horse, his words and his actions.
Примеры
Summary of «Карагёз»: the narrator recognises an old acquaintance, Kazbich, who used to sell sheep cheaply at the fortress, had a weapon decorated with silver and a horse famous throughout Kabarda. The host’s son Azamat praises the horse and says that if he owned a herd of mares he would give first half of it, then the whole herd; Kazbich refuses and tells how he escaped from Cossacks, how Karagyoz leapt a ravine, and how they found each other at night.
Continuation: next day Kazbich comes to sell sheep, ties his horse at the fence and drinks tea with the narrator. Suddenly he hears hoofbeats: Azamat is riding off on Karagyoz. Kazbich fires but misses, smashes his gun and falls to the ground weeping. Next day he learns the thief’s name from the sentry and sets off for the aul where Azamat’s father lives.
Работа в классе
“Portrait of the horse”. Pupils list the horse’s traits from the excerpt (colour, strength, habits) and explain why Kazbich calls it his friend.
