Consolidation lesson
Textbook: p. 47
ЦельConsolidate sentence types by purpose and structure on a text.
In the consolidation lesson we analyse a sentence in two ways: by purpose of expression (declarative, interrogative, imperative, optative) and by structure (simple or compound). The order of analysis: first find and count the formed predicates; one — simple, more than one — compound. Then determine the purpose by intonation, question word and predicate form. A question or command can be turned into a declarative sentence, keeping the content but changing intonation and purpose. Work with this text: “Ustoz bog‘da ko‘chat o‘tqazayotgan edi. Shogird so‘radi: ‘Bu daraxt qachon meva beradi?’ Ustoz kulimsirab dedi: ‘Sabr qil, shoshma!’”
Примеры
“Bu daraxt qachon meva beradi?” — interrogative in purpose, simple (predicate: beradi).
“Sabr qil, shoshma!” — imperative in purpose; it has two formed predicates (qil, shoshma), so it is a compound sentence.
Работа в классе
Analysis relay: each pupil analyses one sentence in two ways and passes on to the next.
Упражнения
1
Analyse “Ustoz bog‘da ko‘chat o‘tqazayotgan edi”.
Declarative in purpose, simple (predicate: o‘tqazayotgan edi).
2
What type is “Shogird so‘radi”?
Declarative, simple.
3
Turn “Bu daraxt qachon meva beradi?” into a declarative sentence.
Shogird daraxt qachon meva berishini bilmoqchi edi (the pupil wanted to know when the tree would bear fruit).
4
Why analyse a sentence in two ways?
Because purpose and structure are separate features: a sentence of one purpose can be simple or compound.
