Inanimate nouns («что?»); «чей? чья? чьё?»
Textbook: pp. 14–18
ЦельRecognise inanimate nouns («что?»), find their gender («он, она, оно») and use «чей? чья? чьё?».
Inanimate nouns answer «что?» (what?): «класс, парта, окно, книга». They also have three genders: masculine («он»: «стол, глобус, словарь»), feminine («она»: «сумка, карта, ручка») and neuter («оно»: «окно, яблоко, задание»). We usually tell the gender from the ending: «-а, -я» are generally feminine, «-о, -е» neuter, a consonant or «-й» masculine. Words ending in a soft sign («ь») must be memorised: «тетрадь, дверь, соль» are «она»; «словарь, портфель, день» are «он». We ask about possession with «чей? чья? чьё? чьи?»: «мой рюкзак, моя линейка, моё яблоко, наш глобус, ваша сумка».
