Объяснение

A noun (имя существительное) names a thing. Animate nouns answer the question «кто?» (who?): «ученик, ученица, друг, кошка, волк». Names of people and animals are animate nouns. To greet one friend (addressed as «ты») we say «Здравствуй!», and to greet an adult, a teacher or several people («вы») we say «Здравствуйте!»; by time of day: «Доброе утро!», «Добрый день!», «Добрый вечер!». To say goodbye: «До свидания!», «До встречи!», and among friends «Пока!». Animate nouns are masculine («он»: ученик) or feminine («она»: ученица); the words «животное» and «чудовище» are neuter («оно»).

Примеры
“Утро в школе” (Morning at school). «— Доброе утро, Нодира Рахимовна! — Здравствуйте, ребята! Кто это? — Это Азиз. Он ученик. А это Зарина. Она ученица. — Как дела? — Хорошо, спасибо. — До встречи!» (A morning greeting in the classroom: “Good morning, Nodira Rakhimovna!” “Hello, children! Who is this?” “This is Aziz. He is a pupil. And this is Zarina. She is a pupil.” “How are you?” “Fine, thank you.” “See you!”)
Masculine and feminine forms: «ученик — ученица», «друг — подруга» (friend), «учитель — учительница» (teacher), «кот — кошка» (tomcat — cat).
Работа в классе

“Greeting chain”. Pupils stand in a circle. Each greets a partner with a greeting that fits the time of day: «Добрый день!» After the reply they ask «Кто ты?» and get the answer «Я ученик (ученица)».
