Объяснение

When a word is formed or changes its form, sounds in the root may alternate. Consonant examples: г/ж — «берег – бережок», «круг – кружить»; к/ч — «рука – ручка»; д/ж — «сидеть – сижу»; т/ч — «катить – качу»; т/щ — «защитить – защищать»; з/ж — «резать – режу»; ск/щ — «искать – ищу». After labial consonants the sound «л» is added: «топить – топлю», «готовить – готовлю». The vowel alternation «е»/«и» occurs in the roots «бер-/бир-, дер-/дир-, мер-/мир-, пер-/пир-, тер-/тир-, стел-/стил-, блест-/блист-, жег-/жиг-, чет-/чит-»: if the suffix «-а-» follows the root, write «и» («собирать»); otherwise write «е» («соберу»). Exceptions: «сочетать, сочетание».

Примеры

«Резать – режу» (з/ж), «сидеть – сижу» (д/ж), «чертить – черчу» (т/ч): in each, a consonant of the root alternates.

«Стирать – стереть»: with the suffix «-а-» we write «и», without it «е». Also «задирать – задеру».

Работа в классе

“Alternation workshop”. The teacher names a verb (for example «тратить»); students give the first person singular («трачу») and name the alternation.

Упражнения

Give the first person singular: «резать», «топить».

Insert е or и: «зад…рать, зад…ру, обж…гать, обж…г».

Name the consonant alternation in «круг – кружок – кружить».

Why do we write и in «собирает» but е in «соберёт»?
