§ 24. The participle
Textbook: pp. 75–78
ЦельForm participles (active and passive, present and past), punctuate participial phrases and spell «н/нн».
A participle is a special form of the verb: it names a feature of an object through an action, answers «какой?» and changes by gender, number and case like an adjective: «читающие дети». Active participles name the doer: present «-ущ-/-ющ-, -ащ-/-ящ-» («читающий», «говорящий»), past «-вш-, -ш-» («писавший», «принёсший»). Passive participles name the object of the action and are formed from transitive verbs: present «-ем-, -им-» («читаемый», «любимый») only from imperfective verbs, past «-нн-, -енн-, -т-» («написанный», «построенный», «вымытый») from perfective verbs. A participial phrase after the word it defines is set off by commas: «Книга, прочитанная мной, интересна»; before the word it is not.
