Use seeds or buttons. Make a pattern for each number from 5 to 9. Show a grown-up and ask: how many?
The child makes neat patterns and reads each number.

Count backwards from 10 to 0 like a rocket: 10, 9, 8 ... blast off! Do it three times.
The child counts 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.
