Taller and shorter

Explanation

Look at the three trees. The middle tree is the tallest. The tree on the right is the shortest. The tree on the left is taller than the tree on the right. It is shorter than the middle tree. We use tall and short to talk about height.

Worked examples
A giraffe is taller than a goat. A goat is shorter than a giraffe.
In the room, the first person is the tallest. The last person is the shortest.
Stand back to back with a friend. Your heads show who is taller.
Class activity

Cup towers. Build three towers with plastic cups or small boxes. Make one tower with 6, one with 4 and one with 9. Say which is the tallest and which is the shortest. Then make a tower taller than the shortest one but shorter than the tallest one.
