Explanation
Numbers stand in a row, in order. The number before is one less. The number after is one more. 46 comes after 45 and before 47. So 46 is between 45 and 47.
Worked examples
Buses 58, 59 and 60 leave the bus stand in order. Bus 59 comes before bus 60 and after bus 58.
What is between 62 and 64? It is 63.
Just after 79 comes 80. Just before 80 comes 79.
Class activity
Chalk hopscotch. Draw 10 boxes on the ground and write 71 to 80 in them. Hop from box to box. A friend closes their eyes while you rub out one number. Which number is missing? Say the number before it and after it.
