Explanation
The kite is above the tree. The puppy is under the tree. The ball is inside the basket. The cat is outside the basket. A round thing can roll. A thing with flat sides slides. We can sort things by colour, by size or by kind.
Worked examples
A drum has a tin shape. A football has a ball shape.
A football rolls. A brick slides.
Sorting by kind: fruits go together and vehicles go together.
Class activity
Treasure map. Hide a small toy and give three clues: it is under something, it is near something, it is not inside anything. Let the child find it. Then swap and let the child give the clues.
