Review: numbers 0 to 10

Joyful Mathematics: Chapters 1–4
GoalRevise counting, zero, more and fewer, and the order of numbers up to 10.
New words
count · say the numbers one by onezero · nonemore, fewer · a bigger number; a smaller numberin order · one after another, smallest first
Explanation

Count by touching each thing once. The last number you say tells how many. Zero means none. To compare two groups, match them one to one. The group with something left over has more. The numbers go in order: 1, 2, 3, up to 10. Each number is one more than the one before it.

Worked examples
Count the mangoes: 8.
cowsducks
7 cows and 5 ducks. Match one cow to one duck. 2 cows are left over, so there are more cows than ducks.

The missing number is 7. It comes after 6 and before 8.
Class activity

Number show. Call out a number from 0 to 10. The child shows it with fingers and then with that many buttons. For 0 the child shows empty hands. Swap roles and make a mistake on purpose. Can the child spot it?
