Explanation

Numbers further along the number row are bigger. 19 is bigger than 14. 14 is smaller than 19. Of 12, 8 and 15, the biggest is 15 and the smallest is 8. To put numbers in order, find the smallest first. Then find the next smallest. If a number is missing in a row, look at the numbers beside it.

Which is bigger, 13 or 18? 18 is further along. 18 is bigger.
12, 8 and 15: the smallest is 8 and the biggest is 15.
Put 17, 12 and 15 in order from smallest: 12, 15, 17.
Class activity

Number towers. Make towers of 12, 15 and 18 blocks, or draw them. Which tower is the tallest? Which is the shortest? Put the towers in order from the shortest to the tallest.
