1
Make a circle with a rope or a drawn line. Label it ‘made of paper’. Find 4 things that go inside and 2 that go outside.
Paper things inside (for example a book, a card, a paper bag, a napkin); other things outside (a spoon, a cup).
2
Draw a circle labelled ‘I like’. Put 3 foods you like inside it and 2 outside. Tell a grown-up what you found out.
The child describes: ‘I like … more than …’ or ‘3 inside, 2 outside’.
3
A circle is labelled ‘cold things’. It has an ice cube and a cup of hot tea inside it. Is there a mistake? Why?
Yes. Hot tea is not cold, so it should be outside the circle.
4
Sort 8 toys into ‘soft’ and ‘not soft’. Count how many are inside and outside.
The two counts must add up to 8.
5
Take 6 things from the kitchen. Sort them in 2 different ways using two different circles.
Two different labels, such as ‘made of metal’ and ‘can hold water’.
