GoalUse ordinal numbers and position words such as on, under, beside, between, in front of and behind.
New words
ordinal number · a number that tells the position: 1st, 2nd, 3rdbetween · in the middle of two thingsbehind · at the back of something
Explanation

Ordinal numbers tell us the position of things in a row: 1st is first, 2nd is second, 3rd is third, 4th is fourth and 5th is fifth. They tell us the place, not how many. Position words tell us where things are. A ball can be on a table, under a table or beside a table. A child can stand in front of you, behind you, or between two friends.

Worked examples
Look at the line above. Sara is 2nd and Mia is 4th. Leo is between Sara and Mia.
The ball is on the table. A ball under the table would be below it.
Ordinal numbers go on: 6th sixth, 7th seventh, 8th eighth, 9th ninth, 10th tenth.
Class activity

Line-up game: ask 6 people or toys to stand in a line. Say who is 1st, 3rd and last. Ask: who is beside the 4th one? Who is between the 2nd and the 4th? Then change the order and play again.
