Strong and weak electrolytes
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Out of 1200 molecules, 180 have dissociated. What is α in percent (number only)?
15
2
Which is strong, HClO₃ (Cl(OH)O₂) or HClO (Cl(OH))? Apply the rule.
HClO₃: n = 2, strong; HClO: n = 0, weak.
3
Write the formulas of three strong alkalis.
NaOH, KOH, Ba(OH)₂ (or Ca(OH)₂).
4
Write the dissociation constant expression for HF ⇄ H⁺ + F⁻.
K = [H⁺][F⁻] / [HF]
5
On dilution the α of acetic acid grows but K stays the same. Why?
α shows the share of ions and dilution shifts the equilibrium toward ions; K is the ratio of equilibrium concentrations and in a given solvent depends only on temperature.
