Explanation

Making corrections to a text is called editing the document. To add a missing character you put the cursor in the right place and type it. A selected part of the text is called a block and is shown with a shaded background. You can select a block with Shift and the arrow keys or by dragging the mouse; a double-click selects a word, a triple-click a paragraph, Ctrl+click a sentence, and Ctrl+A the whole document. Delete removes the character after the cursor, Backspace the one before it; a selected block disappears with Delete. To move a part of the text you cut it with Ctrl+X and paste it in the new place with Ctrl+V; to copy it you use Ctrl+C instead of Ctrl+X. Cut or copied text waits in the clipboard, a temporary memory. When pasting you can keep the formatting or paste text only. To replace a word throughout a long text, press Ctrl+H (Ctrl+F only searches), fill in the “Find what” and “Replace with” boxes and press Replace All. If you slip up, Ctrl+Z undoes the last action.

Worked examples
In “Biz maktabga boramiz” (We go to school) double-click “maktabga”, press Ctrl+X, put the cursor at the end and press Ctrl+V: “Biz boramiz maktabga”.
The word “kompyuter” appears 12 times and must become “noutbuk” (laptop). Press Ctrl+H, Find: kompyuter, Replace with: noutbuk, then Replace All – all are changed at once.
Class activity

“Error hunters”: each group gets a text with deliberate mistakes and corrects it using select, delete and replace, racing to finish first.
