Printing a document in Word
When the document is ready it can be printed on paper. Choose File > Print or press Ctrl+P; on the right you see how the document will look printed, so check that first. The settings are on the left. In the Printer line you choose the printer. Pages: all pages, the current page (where the cursor is), the selection or specific page numbers; for example “1, 3, 5-12” prints pages 1, 3 and 5 to 12. Copies sets how many copies come out; if Collated is ticked, the whole first copy prints first, then the second; otherwise page 1 prints in every copy first, and so on. “Pages per sheet” (1, 2, 4 …) saves paper. You can also print only odd or only even pages. Many printers print on both sides of the paper (Print on Both Sides). For a booklet, choose Layout > Margins > Custom Margins > Multiple pages: “Book fold”, print on both sides and fold the sheets in two; not every printer supports this. Before printing ask yourself whether it is needed: if you only have to send the file, saving it as a PDF (File > Save As > PDF) saves paper and ink.
“Print plan”: groups get a document and a requirement (“even pages of 8, 2 copies”); they write the settings on paper and then test them in print preview rather than on the printer.
