text editor / word processor · matn muharriri / protsessoriediting and formatting · tahrir va formatblock (selected text) · blokobject (picture, shape, table, WordArt) · obyekt
Explanation
We start the review with questions. A text editor (for example Notepad) is for typing, saving and editing text but gives no decoration; a word processor (Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs) lets you make a nice document with fonts, paragraphs, pictures and tables. Editing (adding and deleting characters, selecting a block, copying, moving, find and replace) changes the content; formatting changes the look. Text, pictures, shapes, tables, WordArt and formulas are separate objects, and each shows its own formatting tab when selected. Review tasks: moving a word or line elsewhere, copying a selected part, formatting a part, drawing a computer-room wall or a landscape from shapes, and building a whole document with a table and WordArt. When you finish, save the document, check it in print preview and print it or send it as a PDF if needed.
Worked examples
Mini project “Mening sinfim” (My class): a WordArt title, two paragraphs (14 pt, 1.5 spacing), a picture, a pupils’ table (3 columns × 5 rows) and a page number. Saved as “Mening sinfim”.
Which is editing and which is formatting? Replacing “Kitob” with “Daftar” – editing. Making “Kitob” red and bold – formatting.
Class activity
“Quiz battle”: the class forms two teams; they take turns answering questions (a shortcut, a tab name, an operation) and score a point for each correct answer.
Practice
1
State the main difference between a text editor and a word processor.
An editor works with plain text only; a processor also works with fonts, paragraphs, pictures, tables and other decoration.
2
Which shortcuts are needed to move and to copy text?
Move: Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V; copy: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V.
3
How many cells are in a table with 4 columns and 6 rows?
24
4
How do you make all the letters red, and why might a newly typed letter not come out red?
Select all the text and choose the colour. A new letter takes the format of the character before the cursor; if the cursor follows text of another format, it comes out in that colour.
