Explanation

Erkin Vohidov was born on 28 December 1936 in the Oltiariq district of the Fergana Valley into a teacher’s family. He lost his parents in childhood and grew up in Tashkent with his maternal uncle. He studied at the philology faculty of Tashkent State University. His first collection “Tong nafasi” appeared in 1961 and the doston “Nido” in 1964. He wrote dostons such as “Orzu chashmasi” and “Quyosh maskani”, the comedy “Oltin devor” and the play “Istanbul fojiasi”, led the magazine “Yoshlik”, and translated poems by Yesenin and Goethe’s “Faust” into Uzbek. Vohidov received the title People’s Poet of Uzbekistan and died on 30 May 2016.
