Wonders of nature
Textbook: Part 4, pp. 52–55
GoalRead an informational text on natural wonders and put continents and countries into a table; re-check a wrong piece of information.
New words
canyon · kanyonwaterfall · sharsharapeak · cho‘qqimirage · sarob
Explanation
The textbook text “Tabiat mo‘jizalari” (Wonders of nature) is also from the “Yosh bilimdon” encyclopedia and speaks of the Grand Canyon, the Amazon, Everest, Victoria Falls and the Sahara. We do not copy it; we read our own text. The textbook writes that Victoria Falls is in South America, but this is wrong: it is in Africa, on the Zambezi River, on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. When information seems unclear, we check it in an atlas or a reliable encyclopedia. A mirage is an imaginary scene seen in a hot desert because of layers of air. Trips to mountains or deserts are made only with adults, with water and proper clothing.
Worked examples

Everest is in the Himalayas on the China–Nepal border, about 8849 m high. Victoria Falls is in Africa on the Zambezi River. The Sahara is the largest hot desert in North Africa.
