Microbe, Virus and the girl Salomat (Part 2)
Textbook: Part 3, pp. 43–46
GoalTell good and bad characters apart in a verse tale; find rhyming words; state rules for protecting from illness.
New words
mask · niqobdoctor · shifokorto recover · tuzalmoqcare · g‘amxo‘rlik
Explanation
The textbook has the continuation (Part 2) of the verse tale “Mikrob, virus va Salomat qiz”, in which the girl Salomat helps others recover. We do not retell it. In a tale good and bad characters differ: the good ones help, the bad ones cause harm. We tell them apart by their actions. To protect from illness: wash hands, air the room, cover the mouth with the elbow when coughing, stay at home when ill and be treated as the doctor says. We take medicine only when adults and the doctor say so.
Worked examples
“A rule for staying well” (a four-line stanza). “Before a meal I wash my hands, / when I sneeze I cover up, / if I am ill I rest at home / and go to see the doctor.” Rhyming words: yuvaman – olaman – ko‘rinaman (all end in -man, the “I do” ending).
By actions: washing hands – a good character; hiding illness – bad behaviour.
Class activity
“Rules poem”: groups compose a two-line rhyming poem about a health rule and recite it.
