Explanation
The textbook has the poem “Vatan yoshlari” (Youth of the homeland) by Azim Suyun: it says young people are bound to the fate of the homeland and their tomorrow is in their own hands. One passage is repeated in the poem. We do not retell it. To summarise a poem we first write the main thought of each stanza in one sentence and then join them. We look up unclear words in the glossary.
Worked examples
“The seedlings in the school yard”. In autumn our class planted seedlings in the school yard with the teacher and an experienced gardener. Each pupil became responsible for one seedling. We made a watering rota. The trees will grow and give shade, but that will be many years from now. Even so, we are proud to work for the future. Every good deed done today makes tomorrow more prosperous.
Short summary: young people are responsible for the country’s tomorrow; even small deeds make the homeland prosperous. Proverb: “Ona yurt — oltin beshik” (The native land is a golden cradle).
