Explanation
A squishy is a soft toy you squeeze in your hand. Press it and its shape changes; let go and it slowly comes back to how it was. It is filled with foam, synthetic padding or plain cotton wool: these fillings spring back after pressing and do not bunch up in one place. A squishy can look like a kitten, an apple or a little cake.
Worked examples
A round piece of fabric + cotton + thread + a drawn face = a simple squishy.
Class activity
You need: soft fabric or felt (a circle), cotton wool, thread, felt-tip pen. Steps: 1) Put a piece of cotton wool in the middle of the fabric circle. 2) Gather the edges, wind thread tightly and tie a knot. 3) Draw eyes and a mouth with the pen. 4) Squeeze it and see if it returns to shape. Safety: do not put the toy in your mouth or give it to tiny children; cut thread with scissors, never bite it.
