Explanation

A florist is a specialist who arranges flowers into bouquets and decorations. People give flowers on holidays and to say thank you. Real flowers fade quickly, so artificial flowers are made too. When arranging a bouquet we put tall flowers in the middle, shorter ones round them and fill the gaps with leaves.

Worked examples
Red, yellow and pink flowers + green leaves + a pretty ribbon = a bouquet.
Class activity

You need: crepe paper in two colours, green paper, straws (stems), glue, scissors, sticky tape, ribbon. Steps: 1) Cut 8–10 cm squares from crepe paper. 2) Pinch each in the middle, twist it into a flower and fix it to a straw with tape. 3) Cut leaves from green paper and glue them on the straw. 4) Gather 5 flowers and tie them with ribbon. Safety: when cutting thin paper keep your hand out of the scissors’ path; make sure the straw ends are not broken.
