Explanation
When we go to a theatre or concert we take our own seat. If we pass along a row, we face the seated people and say sorry. During the show we don’t talk, we switch off phones and don’t eat. If we must leave, we leave quietly. At the end we applaud the performers. In a museum we don’t touch the exhibits.
Worked examples
“The play”. The play began in the theatre. Rustam wanted to say something to his friend beside him but remembered: “One mustn’t talk now.” He switched off his phone. At the end Rustam joined everyone in applause.
Class activity
“Audience”: children sit in rows as spectators while two act; the class finds which manners rule was broken.
