On public transport
Textbook pp. 22–25
GoalKnow how to behave politely on public transport and the metro.
New words
public transport · jamoat transportipassenger · yo‘lovchistop, station · bekatmetro, underground · metro
Explanation
The bus, tram and metro are public transport. Before getting on, we let the people getting off pass. We give our seat to elderly people, women with small children and sick people. We don’t talk loudly, push, or make the vehicle dirty. In the metro we don’t run on the escalator or step over the platform line. Pretending to be asleep so as not to give up a seat is bad manners.
Worked examples
“Giving up a seat”. The bus was crowded. Jasur saw an old lady and stood up: “Please, granny, sit down.” She said: “Thank you, my boy, you are well brought up.” Jasur felt happy.
Class activity
“Bus” role-play: chairs form a bus; children take turns as a passenger, an elderly person and a driver, showing polite behaviour.
