Why do we need a phone, a TV and a computer?

Explanation
The phone, TV and computer help us communicate, learn the news, study and relax. In ancient times people sent messages by couriers, heralds and torches. We tell a fact from an opinion: a fact is something real, an opinion is a person’s own view. We don’t sit long in front of a screen, use the internet only with adults or permission and don’t talk to strangers.
Worked examples
“Screen time”. After supper Zafar wanted to play on the tablet. His mother said: “Half an hour.” Zafar set a timer. When time was up he switched the tablet off and played chess with his dad.
Class activity
“Fact or opinion?”: the teacher says a sentence (“The sky is blue” — fact; “Melon is the tastiest” — opinion); children raise a fact/opinion card.
