Respect and politeness (1)
Textbook pp. 66–68
GoalKnow what respect is and how to show it to elders and people of different professions.
New words
respect · hurmatelderly · keksaprofession · kasbbow · ta’zim
Explanation
Respect is recognising a person’s good qualities. We respect elders because they raised us, and are experienced and wise. People of all professions deserve respect: the doctor heals, the teacher teaches, the driver carries, the builder builds houses. Signs of respect: greeting, listening carefully, making way, offering a seat.
Worked examples
“With grandfather”. When grandfather entered the living room, Jamol stood up, greeted him and offered the best place. While grandfather talked, Jamol listened carefully. Grandfather said: “I am proud to have a grandson like you.”
Class activity
“Professions”: children mime a profession (doctor, builder); others say why it is needed and how to respect it.
