My discoveries

Textbook: Part 2, pp. 102–104
GoalReview Unit 8 “Light and sound” and everything learned during the year.
New words
light · nurshadow · soyaspectrum · spektrtimbre · tembr
Explanation

Light is one of the kinds of energy. We see only objects on which light falls and bounces back into our eyes. A shadow is a place where light does not reach. White light consists of seven colours called the spectrum. Objects can both absorb and reflect light. A sound source is very fast vibrations. Sounds are high, low, loud and quiet. Timbre is a sound’s “colour”: by it we recognise whose or what sound it is. This year we learned a lot about ourselves, our surroundings, nature, Earth and space, substances, energy, light and sound.

Worked examples
Torch → light → obstacle → shadow: light travels in a straight line.
A thick string gives a low sound, a thin one a high sound.
Class activity

Final “Exhibition of discoveries”: each child picks the experiment they liked best this year (bean growth, shadows, rainbow, sound vibration, static electricity) and shows it to the class with a drawing or small model, explaining in 3 sentences: “I did ... I saw ... Conclusion: ...”. Safety: demonstrate only safe experiments.

Practice
1
Why do we see an object?
2
How many colours is white light made of?
3
Tell the most interesting thing you learned this year.
