Why must we protect nature?

Textbook: Part 1, pp. 88–91
GoalUnderstand that people depend on nature, tell harmful from helpful actions, and know the word “ecology”.
New words
ecology · ekologiyarubbish, waste · chiqindito protect · asramoqto pollute · ifloslantirmoq
Explanation

A person is part of nature. Nature gives us air to breathe, water to drink, vegetables and fruit to eat. Furniture and dishes are also made of natural materials. The Earth is our shared home. Sometimes people harm nature by dropping litter, cutting trees and polluting water and air. Plastic does not rot in nature for hundreds of years, and animals can be poisoned when they eat it. Ecology is the science that studies how living things relate to each other and to their surroundings.

Worked examples
Helpful: sorting waste, planting trees, building bird feeders.
Harmful: throwing litter into a river, picking all the wild flowers.
Class activity

“Green and red card” game: the teacher names an action. If it is helpful to nature raise green, if harmful raise red (going shopping with a cloth bag, burning rubbish, planting a tree, throwing a glass bottle into a river). Then, with adults and wearing gloves, pick up and sort rubbish in the school yard.
