Explanation
Pets and farm animals are animals that were wild long ago and were tamed by people. We get milk from cows and goats, wool and meat from sheep, eggs from hens. Horses, donkeys and camels carry loads. A dog guards the house and a cat catches mice. People also keep dogs, cats and parrots as friends. A pet needs food, water, shelter and love. They teach people to be responsible.
Worked examples
A cow is a farm animal, a parrot is a decorative bird, a dog is a friend and guard.
A cat needs fresh water and food every day.
Class activity
“My pet” card: draw a pet (or the animal you would like) in your notebook and write its name, appearance, what it eats and how it must be cared for. Read to a partner. Safety: do not approach strange animals and wash your hands with soap after touching an animal.
