New words
rule · qoidareview · takrorlashline · satr
Explanation
Let’s remember the rules: 1) number of vowels = number of syllables; 2) a single vowel is never left alone on a line or the next line; 3) ch, sh, ng are not split; 4) the apostrophe stays in the first syllable; 5) double consonants are split.
Worked examples
fa-rish-ta (angel): 3 syllables, sh not split
a-ka (older brother): 2 syllables, but it is not carried over
Class activity
“Rule referee”: the teacher writes a word split correctly or wrongly. Children raise a green (right) or red (wrong) card and say why.
