Explanation
An action that already happened — Nima qildi? (What did ... do?): o‘qidi (read). An action that usually happens or will happen — Nima qiladi? (What does ... do?): o‘qiydi (reads). An action happening right now — Nima qilyapti? (What is ... doing?): o‘qiyapti (is reading).
Worked examples
Kecha Abbos ertak o‘qidi. (Yesterday Abbos read a fairy tale.) Har kuni ertak o‘qiydi. (He reads one every day.) Hozir ham o‘qiyapti. (He is reading now too.)

Class activity
“Three steps”: the teacher says an action (to play). Children step back and say o‘ynadi (played), stay in place and say o‘ynayapti (is playing), step forward and say o‘ynaydi (plays).
