Writing place names

Textbook Part 2, pp. 32–35
GoalWrite place names with a capital letter.
New words
city · shaharvillage · qishloqriver · daryostreet · ko‘cha
Explanation

Names of countries, cities, villages, streets, rivers, lakes, seas and mountains always have a capital letter, wherever they are in the sentence: O‘zbekiston (Uzbekistan), Toshkent, Amudaryo. But the words shahar (city) and daryo (river) themselves stay small: Samarqand shahri (the city of Samarkand).

Worked examples
O‘zbekistonning poytaxti — Toshkent. (The capital of Uzbekistan is Tashkent.)
Sirdaryo va Amudaryo Orol dengiziga quyiladi. (The Syr Darya and Amu Darya flow into the Aral Sea.)
