Problems: more than, fewer than

Textbook Part 3, pp. 26–27
GoalUse addition for “... more than” and subtraction for “... fewer than”.
New words
... more than · ... ta ko‘p... fewer than · ... ta kamto increase / to decrease · orttirmoq / kamaytirmoq
Explanation

Increasing a number by some amount means adding: “4 more than 6” → 6 + 4 = 10. Decreasing means subtracting: “2 fewer than 6” → 6 − 2 = 4. First work out who the sentence is about.

Worked examples
Aziz has 6 coloured pencils and Lola has 4 more: 6 + 4 = 10.
Said has 2 fewer pencils than Aziz: 6 − 2 = 4.
Class activity

Block towers: the teacher builds a 6-block tower. Children build towers with “2 more” and “2 fewer” next to it and count them.
