Comparing groups

Textbook Part 1, pp. 18–19
GoalCompare two groups by pairing: which has more, which has fewer, or are they the same.
New words
more · ko‘pfewer / less · kamthe same number · shunchato pair up · juftlamoq
Explanation

To compare two groups, we join each object to one object from the other group with a line. The group with objects left over has more. If everything gets a partner, the groups have the same number.

Worked examples
4 teachers and 3 flowers: when we pair them, one teacher gets no flower. There are fewer flowers; 1 more is needed.
🐰🐰🐰 and 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕: there are more carrots, fewer rabbits.
Class activity

A group of children sits on chairs. Are there enough chairs? Who is left standing? Children say “more chairs / more children / the same”.

Practice
1
🐶🐶🐶🐶 and 🦴🦴🦴. Which is more?
2
How many more bones are needed so each dog gets one?
3
Make more circles than squares: 3 squares are drawn. How many circles could you draw?
4
There are 5 apples on a plate. Draw the same number in the basket. How many?
