Adding two-digit numbers (practice)
Textbook Part 2, pp. 50–51
GoalSolve problems with two or three addends; compare the results.
New words
flower pot · tuvakto look after · parvarish qilmoqwho has more? · kim ko‘proq?
Explanation
When a problem says “altogether” or “in total”, we usually add. To compare results, find each sum first, then compare the tens and ones.
Worked examples
Teachers look after 12 hanging pots and 21 cactus pots: 12 + 21 = 33. Pupils look after 45 pots. 45 > 33 — the pupils look after more.
More figs than persimmons were planted, and more pomegranates than figs. Most: pomegranates; fewest: persimmons.
Class activity
“Shop”: items have price tags (e.g. 23, 41). A child picks two items and works out the total price.
