The numbers 11 and 12
Textbook Part 2, pp. 8–9
GoalKnow the bonds of 11 and 12 and use them in problems.
New words
eleven · o‘n birtwelve · o‘n ikkibond / make-up · tarkib
Explanation
11 = 10 + 1 = 9 + 2 = 8 + 3 = 7 + 4 = 6 + 5. 12 = 10 + 2 = 9 + 3 = 8 + 4 = 7 + 5 = 6 + 6. Knowing these pairs helps later with adding across ten.
Worked examples
Every day 6 kinds of animals disappear from the Earth. In 2 days: 6 + 6 = 12 kinds.
With a ruler: 9 + 3 → 3 steps right from 9 → 12.
Class activity
